As a social worker with a background in both child protection and family violence settings, I have observed first-hand the repercussions of childhoods affected by abuse and violence.
My move from crisis intervention to education and prevention was informed by a need to see first-hand the other side of the story.
In my time at Body Safety Australia, my ethics have been affirmed and I have seen the power of giving young people and their communities the tools to not only prevent abuse but to live respectfully, authentically, and joyfully in the world.
An unexpected aspect of this work was the invitation to integrate myself more fully into the role, respected not just for my professional knowledge and expertise, but also my lived experience as a queer individual with a passion for performance and different forms of expression – whether that be my dorky dancing or wickedly lame jokes. What I love about this work is that it takes a full and varied toolkit!
