Sex, schoolkids and where it all goes wrong. BSA features in The Sydney Morning Herald

David Leser and Natassia Chrysanthos explore the tragic and all-too-common reality of sexual assault and rape culture in schools in this well-researched, brilliantly written and heart-wrenching article about privilege and predation in private boys’ schools. (sex, schoolkids and where it all goes wrong 12/03/21)

The article delves into the increasingly common occurrence of sexual assault scandals in our schools, particularly private boys schools. In David’s words, it was ‘Harrowing to research and write. Crucial to reveal.’.

We deal with the effects of this culture in the schools and organisation we deal with, the exasperation of most teachers and parents on one side, the ignorance of the remainder on the other. We see the hurt, suffering and confusion for the young people facing these attitudes and behaviours every. single. day.

It's important more people understand what young women and men are experiencing and the cultures being perpetuated in environments that should be safe for them. This article is a stark insight into why consent education and respectful relationships education is so important.

Although we wish we could solve this problem ourselves, it's simply not possible for an organisation alone. It takes all of us, as a community, to do the work to 'rewrite the rules of men for tomorrow'.
