I come from a performance background, and much of my work has been with children: I’m an actor with a children’s theatre company, and an early childhood music and movement educator. I have also worked as an educator in the OSHC space, a character host for children’s parties, and a sensory play facilitator.
My work with children has been beautifully rewarding, but I’ve observed a clear and consistent need for the kind of education that Body Safety Australia provides. I’ve seen how small a young person can be made to feel when we project harmful stereotypes onto the choices they make — when the adults and other children around them say that the little toy cars in the prize tin are only for boys, or that the pink tutu in the dress-up box is only for girls.
As a queer and neurodivergent educator, I take pride in BSA’s commitment to providing programs that are inclusive of all children and families. It is absolutely vital that everyone in our village has the tools and support to keep young people safe.
