Body Safety Australia win the 2020 Victorian Early Years Award for promoting children’s health and wellbeing.
For Immediate Release: December 2020
Body Safety Australia are proud to be named as winners of this year’s Victorian Early Years Award (VEYA) in the Promoting Health and Wellbeing category.
Announced on the 25th of November through the Department of Education and Training’s social media channels, the Early Years Body Safety Superstars program was one of 20 finalists shortlisted from 115 nominations across all categories.
“We are passionate and dedicated to the work that we do, and we are thrilled to be recognised for our contribution to the wellbeing of children,” says Body Safety Australia CEO Deanne Carson. “This is a testament to our team of extraordinary educators who turn up for children every single day.”
The Department of Education and Training’s Victorian Early Years Awards (VEYA) celebrate the “exceptional contributions that individuals and organisations make to improve the learning and development of young children and their families”.
Body Safety Australia would like to thank Minister Ingrid Stitt, the Department of Education and every childhood educator for their commitment to child protection and empowerment. This award only serves to strengthen our drive to support educators, families and communities in helping to prevent child abuse and create cultures that empower and protect children.
Body Safety Australia’s Early Years Body Safety Superstars! program teaches children ages 3 to 6 how to understand and communicate bodily autonomy, as well as identify ‘safe’ adults and express emotions, by using age-appropriate songs, activities, stories, games and group conversations.
The program is also available for parents and professionals to learn how to identify the warning signs of abuse and support children in developing respectful and healthy relationships.
Founded in 2015, Body Safety Australia takes a whole-community approach to promoting childhoods free from violence. Our evidence-based strategies and programs empower and educate children and young people, their families, and professionals in the home and school environments, offline and online.
