Flourish 2021 Line Up Announcement: Introducing: Catrin Culla

Introducing Catrin Culla

Catrin Culla graduated from Seton College in 2018, completed courses at Help Employment & Training, then worked in hospitality and retail.

She is currently an admin/ research assistant for the Mater Health Project and features in a video helping make health services user-friendly for people with disabilities. As well as featuring in the video, she proofreads written documents to ensure that they make sense to people with intellectual disabilities.

Catrin represented Australia in the Special Olympics swim teams in Dubai in 2019, winning both Gold and Bronze medals. She loves pop songs and movies and longs for the love and ‘happy ever after’ romance they promise. Catrin has Down Syndrome and has twice presented to DSAQ Conferences for educators.

‘What we wish Catrin and her peers had learned about relationships/keeping safe/ sexuality while they were in school’.

Catrin is 21. She’s in the workforce, loves pop songs and movies and longs for the love, romance and intimacy they promise. Catrin has Down Syndrome and sadly, there have been incidents and issues.

Unfortunately, Catrin’s counsellor, Dr Natasha Alexander from Consentability won’t be able to attend the event, but Catrin and her Grandmother Jan Gillies, join us to reflect on the question: ‘What we wish Catrin and her peers had learned about relationships/keeping safe/ sexuality while they were in school’.
